Been to a a job today to alter some pipework after a large local company had fitted a new Worcester 15ri at the cost of nearly £3k and have left her with almost no heating.

Basically the system is dragging air in due to it being a bungalow with 8mm feeds on all the rads and the cold feed and exspansion connected in on the flow in the loft with about 300mm of expansion pipe. they just kept coming and bleeding the rads and then couple of weeks later it stopped working again.

There son got in contact with me and so far I have ran a new combined cold feed and expansion to the airing cupboard, along with fitting a auto air vent in the loft on the old cold feed.

flushed the system through all the rads and cleaned the header tank as it was almost full of brown sludge! flushed through all radiators and got it working.

have advised on a magna clean and some x800 running through the system as its heavily contaminated.

boiler was fitted less than 6 months ago. take a look at the quality of the water in it! this was the whole system water not just the first pull.

you can see in the loft pic the position of the cold feed! I cant believe the company in question have left a system this dirty and have not bothered to even offer to alter the pipe work.

although I get great satisfaction from sorting issues like this out!

I often have to alter the cold feed & vent when fitting conventional boiler... normally just adapt the existing pipework tho rather than go back to the tank!

Where's the new vent in the pic?

I lose a few jobs by saying I will have to alter the cold feed and vent as they think I'm trying to add more onto the job.

The last one I did wouldn't fire up & run the cold feed & vent was so bad, the vent sucked in like a hoover & would shoot back in the cold feed every few minutes! A quick alteration & the header tank was much calmer & it heated up a treat :)

have combined the cold feed and vent. fitted a new 22mm combined feed and vent to the airing cupboard

Hello plumbers in my internet. So the Mrs want a spray mixer tap in the kitchen as we had two separate taps. I changed the tap for a temporary two hole mixer but the cold water pressure is high mains fed and the hot is low pressure immersion tank fed. I've been trying to find info on what I...

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...

Every two weeks or so I have to go and top up the system because the hot taps are running cold. Boiler display is flashing 0.6 bar and I fill up to 1.3. I've had an engineer look inside the boiler and he can't see anything wrong. I've checked the pipes all over the house and cannot see any...

We are from Alberta, and I own an electrical company. I have been asked by a BC Mechanical P. Eng. to install an emergency STOP button at the man-door to the boiler room. It's intent is to 'halt' the operation of the boilers in the room should there be an emergency. He is demanding that I do...
