Hi All
I have recently had a Magnaclean filter fitted by a local plumber but am not sure if it has been fitted in the correct place. He has fitted it on the pipework coming out of the hot water tank in the airing cupboard. I am not an expert in this but I guess logically this is the outlet for the water that is pumped through the heating coil that goes through the hot water tank to heat the water. This in turn leads to a larger diameter pipe that must return to the boiler. My only concern is that the filter is hot and it feels like water is running through it when both the c/h and hot water is on but when the c/h only is on it is cold so surely it isn't then having water pumped through it and is not working. My central heating is working fine so this is my only concern. I have a conventional baxi solo boiler and an open vented system.

This is my first post so sorry if this is a daft question and my explanation is not good but I am not a tradesperson.

Recommended place to fit is on the return to the boiler.

Hi sorry for the delay these are the pictures.

Hi berny, it sonds like youve said hes put it on the cylinder return, which is OK. the heating water will pass through it at some stage and regularly (if that makes sense), hopefully he will have put system inhibitor in so there shouldnt be any more corrosion occuring. the magnaclean therefore only needs to pick up whatevers crud is left in the system. The only place you MUSNT put it is on the flow before the vent pipe.

Thanks princegoose yes it is on the return pipe from the cylinder.

Probably because it was the easiest place to fit it to keep it discreet. They are not the nicest things in the world and my pet hate is one stuck on full view above or below a boiler in a kitchen.

As has been said ideally it should be on the return before the boiler but it can be fitted anywhere (except as said, before the expansion) as all the water will go through it at some point.

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...
