sludge
Sludge is a semi-solid slurry that can be produced from a range of industrial processes, from water treatment, wastewater treatment or on-site sanitation systems. For example, it can be produced as a settled suspension obtained from conventional drinking water treatment, as sewage sludge from wastewater treatment processes: 23–25 or as fecal sludge from pit latrines and septic tanks. The term is also sometimes used as a generic term for solids separated from suspension in a liquid; this 'soupy' material usually contains significant quantities of 'interstitial' water (between the solid particles). Sludge can consist of a variety of particles, such as animal manure.Industrial wastewater treatment plants produce solids that are also referred to as sludge. This can be generated from biological or physical-chemical processes.
In the activated sludge process for wastewater treatment, the terms "waste activated sludge" and "return activated sludge" are used.
In food processing and beverage-making industries, sludge can have high protein content and other nutrients that can be used for beneficial purposes such as animal feed, thereby avoiding disposal at a landfill.
Hi all. I have query regarding a DHW issue on a Ideal Logic 24. Boiler is less than two years old. Central heating function works fine. Boiler starts and fires when called for. CH water temp to radiators seems fine. In DHW mode. HW tap on. Water flow ok. Boiler starts and burner indicator on...

Hello All,
I'm hoping someone can help, I have had various boiler problems with my Heatline S24 Combi for awhile, including cutting out. I have British gas home care, but they refused to do anything much unless I pay £800+ for a power flush, due to sludge. I decided to flush it myself, I done...
My boiler (and entire central heating system) was installed and first used in August 2009. In February 2011 the hot water began fluctuating hot and cold. The boiler still under warranty was repaired by Viessmann with a new heat exchange plate which was blocked with sludge. They replaced this...

Hi, I searched the forum and couldn't find this issue discussed before, sorry if it was.
I got a new (Sime) gas boiler (with expansion vessel/auto-fill) water central heating system plumbed in 7 years ago to an old 3 storey Georgian terraced house I renovated. It's a mixture of some 100 year...

Hi
I have potterton Combi 80 boiler with sealed/closed system that is running on the single pipe (i.e. no separate feed and return pipes). Additionally, the radiators have single outlet on the bottom middle rather than separate inlet and outlet on each bottom side.
I have been told by British...
To cut a long story short, after a BG callout to replace a blocked/scaled pump (didn't see the pump myself so not sure) i was quoted £1200 for a power flush and new pipe work (because it was so sludged apparently) to which i said 'balls' and investigated it myself.
After cleaning the expansion...

Hi,
I have a Potterton Combi 80 boiler which has been working perfectly until few weeks ago. It started to lock itself out which meant that I had to reset the boiler. Since I have the boiler cover from British Gas, I called them to investigate the issue. What the guy suggested was that it is...

Hi all,I am new to this forum. Just to give you a quick low down on what has happened so far. My Mother had a guy round to remove sludge in the central heating pipes which had practically stopped any water flow round the system ,and all but three of her rads remained cold. He refused to power...

Good Morning
I am surprised by the amount of sludge that collects at the bottom of an F & E tank, i would have thought that sludge would have settled more at a low point rather than a high point. Just out of interest is it just sediment being carried around in the circulation of the water and...

Hi folks,

Hi everyone,
In an outside drain, where the bathroom water and water from washing machine goes, there is quite alot of black sludge.
There is no smell, and no debris. We have just moved here, and the drains are old, plus doesn't look as if they have been cleaned for years.
I've tried a...
