sludge
Sludge is a semi-solid slurry that can be produced from a range of industrial processes, from water treatment, wastewater treatment or on-site sanitation systems. For example, it can be produced as a settled suspension obtained from conventional drinking water treatment, as sewage sludge from wastewater treatment processes: 23–25 or as fecal sludge from pit latrines and septic tanks. The term is also sometimes used as a generic term for solids separated from suspension in a liquid; this 'soupy' material usually contains significant quantities of 'interstitial' water (between the solid particles). Sludge can consist of a variety of particles, such as animal manure.Industrial wastewater treatment plants produce solids that are also referred to as sludge. This can be generated from biological or physical-chemical processes.
In the activated sludge process for wastewater treatment, the terms "waste activated sludge" and "return activated sludge" are used.
In food processing and beverage-making industries, sludge can have high protein content and other nutrients that can be used for beneficial purposes such as animal feed, thereby avoiding disposal at a landfill.

Hi chaps,
Just a quick one on a leaking hot water cylinder - once a connection starts to leak , is the only option to replace the cylinder? See attached shot - the connection runs from the base of the cylinder to the bottom of the external immersion heater. As you can see it is well corroded...

Recently installed unvented system with Magnaclean filter above boiler. There is a continuous drip which appears to be the Magnaclean. Happens when the boiler is running. System was apparently washed out before start up. Is this usual? Would the filter be clogged up after 2 weeks running?

Hi guys and girls,

Hi, Need a bit of help with a Chafotaux Brittony Cobi 100 boiler.
Only getting some heat to the closest rads to the boiler. Checked valves, air etc and all ok. Checked the pump and it was really hot although it was spinning freely and vented. DHW okay. Does the pump need replacing???

Hi i have an issue on my toilet where the cistern trickles water into the bowl - and eventually the top up system kicks in to fill the cystern up again - this is an annoyance due to the water wastage - where would you suggest to look first to rectify the issue.
thanks.

My plummer is fitting a new Worcester Greenstar 37cdi in my house. I have 11 rads, 8 old ones and 3 new ones. My plummer is recommending a power flush, but I'm thinking should I replace the old rads instead. If I do replace the old rads would I still need a power flush?
