filter

A low-pass filter is a filter that passes signals with a frequency lower than a selected cutoff frequency and attenuates signals with frequencies higher than the cutoff frequency. The exact frequency response of the filter depends on the filter design. The filter is sometimes called a high-cut filter, or treble-cut filter in audio applications. A low-pass filter is the complement of a high-pass filter.
In optics, high-pass and low-pass may have different meanings, depending on whether referring to frequency or wavelength of light, since these variables are inversely related. High-pass frequency filters would act as low-pass wavelength filters, and vice versa. For this reason it is a good practice to refer to wavelength filters as short-pass and long-pass to avoid confusion, which would correspond to high-pass and low-pass frequencies.Low-pass filters exist in many different forms, including electronic circuits such as a hiss filter used in audio, anti-aliasing filters for conditioning signals prior to analog-to-digital conversion, digital filters for smoothing sets of data, acoustic barriers, blurring of images, and so on. The moving average operation used in fields such as finance is a particular kind of low-pass filter, and can be analyzed with the same signal processing techniques as are used for other low-pass filters. Low-pass filters provide a smoother form of a signal, removing the short-term fluctuations and leaving the longer-term trend.
Filter designers will often use the low-pass form as a prototype filter. That is, a filter with unity bandwidth and impedance. The desired filter is obtained from the prototype by scaling for the desired bandwidth and impedance and transforming into the desired bandform (that is low-pass, high-pass, band-pass or band-stop).

    Replace MagnaClean with another filter

Background - I'm a DIYer but am comfortable with draining down systems, adding radiators and using flux and solder etc. So I've inherited an old system in our house with a 28mm old-style MagnaClean on the return. Both isolation valves are knackered (common fault the internet tells me!) so I've...

@Lou and I have an issue with out water. It's often Chlorinated heavily. Sometimes not so bad. Too often to guarantee a nice glass of water, but not often enough to get bloody used to it. So I keep noticing it. Now I've looked online, and a filter seems to be the way to go. I aren't going to...

    Where to fit magnetic filter?

Hi all, My customer would like a magnetic filter fitted. There's not a lot of pipe space - pics attached. I've figured my two options would be an Adey Atom on the 22mm flow above the boiler (obviously not ideal, but I don't much fancy trying to access the 22return), or a very easy install on...

    Brita Filter Tap Hose disconnected

Hi, I hope someone can help. Today, foolishly, I took the spout part of my 3 way Brita filter tap off - the bit that sits just above the taps. The spout was not swivelling cleanly. Power flush vs passive filter

In 95% of instances the much cheaper/simpler Magnacleanse type filters seem to be really effective. You obviously need a working circulating pump but has anyone used one where a boiler couldn't generate hot water? Do people still buy powered units? I had planned to buy one but haven't really...
