I have a worcester greenstar 28i junior boiler in my flat, its about 7 years old and has never put a foot wrong apart from losing a bit of pressure over the course of the week. I've moved out of the flat and its been empty for about 8 months, boiler unused. Tried the Hot water at the taps today and it was barely warm and the boiler was making a cycling noise like it was trying to work but cutting out. I tried putting the central heating on and then trying the hot water again and the hot tap worked as it should. Can anyone advise on what this is likely to be and if so how much am i looking for a repair? I noticed when I used the filling loop to top up there was a bit of water came from came up inside the boiler somewhere, so this could be related?

The pressure loss:
is because it’s loosing water from somewhere, it could be related to what you said, but I’ve a feeling may not be. It may be a radiator leak, expansion vessel pressure loss or pressure relief valve discharging.

The hot water issue:
I think what you have is a leak on a part dripping onto the diverter motor and causing it to stick.

Hi, when i lived at the flat it would need a top of water every week or so. Couldn't ever see any signs of a leak from any pipes. I was last at the flat 6 days ago then topped the pressure up to 1.2 bar. Yesterday I think I tried the hot water first, didn't work so checked and the pressure was a bit low (not at 0 though) so topped it up and noticed a bit of water falling.

Best get GS engineer round to check pressure drop issue . Has it ever been serviced?

No, i've never had it serviced since i've had it so will have to pay the price for that now. Would it be better getting a gas safe engineer that specialises in WB boilers or does that not matter? Will need to get a gas safety check done at the same time

Yes if its leaking water out of the external pressure relief pipe
Lots of people wont touch it as its a nightmare job

Most Gsi 's will have knowledge of these boilers they need servicing every 12 months and any small faults need to rectified , if the boiler sump is not cleaned then often the boiler will fail. You need a Gsi to attend . Kop

Suprised it’s last 7 years without a service with it being a Worcester !

you would be surprised had a couple once never serviced there boiler just put that money into a new one most of them lasted 9-11 years

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...

Hi bit of a weird issue, I installed a grohe bathroom tap successfully 2 months ago bought from screwfix. Last week the right hand hot tap makes a squeak noise as I turn it on or off, left tap is 100% perfect and noiseless. This grohe tap is like one unit, so no screw notch or way I can remove...

Hi, Later this year I am going away for a 2 week holiday and as the weather will be warm there is no need for the heating to be on and arguably no need for me to needlessly heat hot water. My intention was to turn the boiler off along with the mains water when going away. Now, I have heard...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...

Hi, I seemed to have a blockage in kitchen sink. A plumber came and cleared all the pipework that is visible inside my home (there was debris and pebbles!) We saw that the pipe that takes water down the gutter was visibly full to the top. He said he will return with a coil to push through...
