thing
A thing (that is, "assembly" or folkmoot) was a governing assembly in early Germanic society, made up of the free people of the community presided over by a lawspeaker. Things took place at regular intervals, usually at prominent places that were accessible by travel. They provided legislative functions, as well as being social events and opportunities for trade. In modern usage, the meaning of this word in English and other languages has shifted to mean not just an assemblage of some sort but simply any sort of thing.
Could someone tell me what this is, please?
(coming from a Joule Cyclone unvented cylinder)
It was making a distinct knocking, vibrating, rattling sound, I turned it slightly clockwise, and the noise stopped instantly.
The system is 2.5 years old.
is there something I need to do to prevent...

Hi,
I recently opened the packaging of a new wood cutting semicircular cutter
for my Dewalt multicutter tool. As I was recycling the packaging, I came across this black piece of metal taped to the card in the packaging.
I have no idea what it is for and the impression I get is that I...
Our Baxi boiler works fine most of the time but the last few days it does not heat the water first thing in the morning and occasionally later on in the day too. It still works most of the time, e.g. for baths. The pressure is fine even when the water isn't heating.
I've had a look online and...
The situation is as follows. I have a shower enclosure which is slightly too small for the new shower tray. In a way this works to my advantage. I think. Why, because I stupidly bought 3mm wet wall panels. I didn't forsee the issues this would cause. (The panels not being thick enough to overlap...
I’m not a heating engineer but I’m fairly knowledgeable on the way systems work. But I have come across an issue which I’m wondering is common.
Earlier this year I had a fully licensed engineer install a new baxi combi in a property I’m doing some work on. Great job done without any problems...
Hi plumbers and DIYers
I made a post about my 3-port valve a couple of weeks ago, but have finally been able to take a look and thought best to start a new one than tag on. Hope that's ok.
Recap: We've had a problem whereby our boiler will only heat the radiators, even when set to hot water...
Hi again
I'm on a roll with the plumbing questions today! So here's query #2...
We've not used our hot water for quite some time, and it now doesn't work. From what I can gather based on what I've learnt in the last hour or two, I think the problem is with the 3 port motorised valve. When...
There is black plastic thing in my airing cupboard that has hot water going through it. Its been there for years and I have never seen water going through it. Today I had a loud noise in my airing cupboard (like water dripping) and noticed that it had water going through. It doesn't seem...
My external foul drains are not deep. If I connect a rest bend then most of it will be exposed. Painting should stop UV degradation but I'm not sure how well the paint will adhere. does anyone make black ones?
Would two 135 degree bends connected together make a suitable alternative with a...
Hi guys, I've got a bit of a strange one here and wondering if anyone else has found this situation or has an explanation. Both me and the Mrs are long-haired types so the shower drain gets quite clogged with the stuff which I have to clean out every now and again. In my line of work I've...

Hi
I was hoping to get some advice from a gas safe engineer who is used to doing landlord checks please.
I have a boiler (condensing boiler used for gas central heating only and not for hot water which is by electric immersion) and the last landlord check engineer said it was not safe to use...
HI there, I am joining this site in order to hopefully gain some knowledge in order to maintain and or replace some items within my house. I hope once I have some knowledge to help others where I may be able to.
My first query is to try an identify a power shower from a picture I have, I will...
Hi all
I live in a second floor flat and my toilet needs a macerator. I have bought the Grundfos Sololife 2 CWC-3 wall hung macerator 620W from Screwfix. Grundfos tell me the noise level for this pump is 70dB(A). It cost me £320.
I bought this a while ago as had to wait for the builders, so...
