output

In computing, input/output (I/O, or informally io or IO) is the communication between an information processing system, such as a computer, and the outside world, possibly a human or another information processing system. Inputs are the signals or data received by the system and outputs are the signals or data sent from it. The term can also be used as part of an action; to "perform I/O" is to perform an input or output operation.
I/O devices are the pieces of hardware used by a human (or other system) to communicate with a computer. For instance, a keyboard or computer mouse is an input device for a computer, while monitors and printers are output devices. Devices for communication between computers, such as modems and network cards, typically perform both input and output operations.
The designation of a device as either input or output depends on perspective. Mice and keyboards take physical movements that the human user outputs and convert them into input signals that a computer can understand; the output from these devices is the computer's input. Similarly, printers and monitors take signals that computers output as input, and they convert these signals into a representation that human users can understand. From the human user's perspective, the process of reading or seeing these representations is receiving output; this type of interaction between computers and humans is studied in the field of human–computer interaction. A further complication is that a device traditionally considered an input device, e.g., card reader, keyboard, may accept control commands to, e.g., select stacker, display keyboard lights, while a device traditionally considered as an output device may provide status data, e.g., low toner, out of paper, paper jam.
In computer architecture, the combination of the CPU and main memory, to which the CPU can read or write directly using individual instructions, is considered the brain of a computer. Any transfer of information to or from the CPU/memory combo, for example by reading data from a disk drive, is considered I/O. The CPU and its supporting circuitry may provide memory-mapped I/O that is used in low-level computer programming, such as in the implementation of device drivers, or may provide access to I/O channels. An I/O algorithm is one designed to exploit locality and perform efficiently when exchanging data with a secondary storage device, such as a disk drive.

    Calculation of thermal output???

I've just had an air to water heat pump installed at my house, and I wanted to get a rough idea of what it's performance is. Can anyone help with a reasonably simple way to calculate the real world COP as a cross-check against the manufacturers BS? I appreciate that COP is a crude measure...

Does thin copper pipework prevent radiators from achieving their rated BTU output?

Hi – There are actually four questions I’m hoping you can help with – shown at the end of the post. In my living room even with the radiator on full blast pretty much all the time (and scorching to the touch), the room is never what you’d call cosy. It has one radiator at the door (600mm...

Running a combi boiler with just two radiators

Hi, I've a large house, heated with a 42kw combi boiler. My 89 year old mother lives with us and uses two down stairs rooms. She is always cold (we live in Scotland) so even during the summer months I have to heat her two rooms. I use two electric oil filled heaters at the moment but wondered...

Nu heat or polypipe for wet UFH

I'm caught between two systems for UFH, I prefer the idea of the polypipe as it is simpler and quicker to install - my plumber /builder haven't done the low profile screed type UFH before, but... Nu Heat say their screed system has a heat output of 120w/m2 through 10mm pipe. (link removed...

    Underheating microbore with condensing boiler

I’ve never been too happy with the condensing Vaillant EcoMax Pro 28E that replaced our original cast iron boiler heating our vented microbore system. The house didn’t seem to get any warmer than before the changeover about 5 years ago, but I’ve been told everything was OK so I did nothing about...

Heat emitter guide - Oversizing factor discrepancy

Anyone else finding the heat emitter guide a pain to work with? I keep finding myself with the same problem. I can size a radiator based on flow temp and heat loss requirements, but the calculated oversizing factor is in the lower star rating than the flow temp. Example @ 40°C flow temp...

Condensate output contains grit and pressure loss

Checking the boiler before winter, I have found the condensate trap contains a lot of grit, rather like sand. I don't think that's normal, but what is it likely to be? It works normally, but keeps losing pressure, about 1 bar every 3-4 days, with no signs of escaping water. I keep topping it up...

Intergas Compact HRE SB 30 boiler output

I'm looking to get my boiler changed in the coming week and everyone seems to have there own opinion with what is a good brand/model and what is a bad one. On balance I'm getting a good vibe about Intergas, but I'm a bot concerned that the output of the Compact HRE SB 30 boiler is rather low...

Checking output to electrode - Ravenheat 84e

Hi, Can anyone tell me the correct method for testing the output from a ignition pcb to the spark electrode ? I've been roped into looking at my mates Ravenheat 84e tmz. When he creates a demand the pump and fan start but there's no sparking at electrode. I haven't looked at it yet, thought if...
