I’ve got British Gas coming this week to do a boiler survey under the grant scheme. Apparently the surveyor decides on which specific boiler is going to be installed. I’ve been told that it will be one of 3 makes-Vaillant, Potterton and Ideal.

I am aware that the Ideal boiler from a couple of years ago were quite bad and that they have improved now with 2+ years warranty as standard depending on the model. I have not heard anything good or bad about the other two makes. It will more than likely be a combi they fit, as that is was is fitted at the moment. Any advice/guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Do you qualify for the 100% free boiler scheme? Anything else come back to ask for further advice as BG can be beaten on all other installs by significant amounts. You have not given us the specific boiler from each companies range.I would probably choose Vaillant or Ideal which are much improved.

also an independant installer will not only beat BG on price but will most likely be able to offer a longer guarantee. this is because BG buy in bulk with shorter length because of their homecare which you can take out, not needed if you have a longer guarantee.

Did not mention the usual things to watch out for with BG as the OP may be getting a free boiler. If not Steve is correct.Get a boiler with a 5-7 year guarantee, filter, much cheaper power flush/ chemical flush, yearly service with an independent installer.Saving will be 30/40%.I am always happy for my customers to get a BG quote, makes an easy sale for me.

Hi. I'm having some issues with my boiler / central heating and have enlisted a local 'Combi Heating Specialist' to sort it out but he seems to be making things worse. I really need another expert's opinion, to put my mind at rest, or help me make the decision to stop using his services. I...

Hi, we've recently bought our first house (1.5 bed, 1.5 bath, 6 radiators), and it seems we're in need of a new boiler - apparently our current one is a Valliant 2008 model, and it just started unhappily clanging a couple of weeks ago. The plumber we called to look at it suggested we replace it...
