Hello

First post - found this forum via a google search and a similarish question 3 years ago. I am not a professional and am not attempting diy - just wondering if guidance re cavities and meter housing could be cleared up a bit more for me.

Situation is we moved into new home, discover it was not actually connected to gas. It is now reconnected (new pipes and digging up half drive and everything - fortunately as it was missed off works we don't have to pay for it) pending me getting someone qualified to sort everything and check system our side.

My question is about the housing. Last owner removed the understairs cupboard where meters are, then boxed them off with access hatches. In osb. I have no idea why. Could have used plasterboard but no. Gas people insisted on removing panels as said it formed a cavity? No vents just hatches.

I would like to build in some furniture in the space, leaving access to meters and pipes. I'm a bit confused as to whether this would be a cavity. If we fit doors for access will it be ok? If we vent it, does it have to vent outside or can it vent inside? Today the consensus from gas board guys seemed to be both - access being most important. The guy who will do the work prob won't know about this stuff. Am keen not to build something with potential to blow up our house, so advice appreciated!

A built in cross sectional area of between 0,05m2 and 7.5m2 needs high and low vents of free area (measuring the gaps on the vent) 0.05m2. Can be vented to inside.
Pretty big vents.
Why not get them to move the meter outside

Yup correct, 1960's build. Too late to ask them to move it, they're done and gone! Looking at houses in our street doesn't look like they moved any when they put new lines in. Thanks for the numbers, that will be really helpful in considering options. Guy I've got in mind to do this is going to love me ;)

Hi, basic question, any insight much appreciated. Looking to have an outdoor tap in my front porch fed from 15mm pex coming up from suspended floor. Pic 1 is inside porch, pex temporarily clipped to give an idea of pipe placement (ignore shoddy blockwork of booted cowboy builder!), Pic 2 is...
