I live in a 3 storey victorian terrace and we've had a smelly sewage smell in both the bedrooms on the middle floor for the past 2 or so months that comes and goes but tends to be worse in the evenings. We've also recently had a blocked toilet on the ground floor which was caused by a block sewage pipe leaving the property which we unblocked with rods via the outside manhole. There was obviously a lot of back up sewage coming from the pipes from the downstairs loo and from the pipes from the bathroom on the top floor. This latter pipe leaves the house under the back bedroom on the middle floor (one of the smelly ones) and comes from a bathroom at the front of the house on the top floor. Since we unblocked the sewage pipe the smell has remained. The upstairs toilet seems to be working fine and I have used a toiler plunger just in case there was some sewage left in the pipes. We have two unused gas fires in the smelly bedrooms but don't know if that could be relevant. We've tried pulling up floor boards in those bedrooms but can't pinpoint the smell. Does anyone have any suggestions or who would be the correct contractor to help in this instance?
Many thanks in advance
