Hi,

I have a Ideal HE30 boiler. We have lived hear for 18months and thought it was time for a service. Got a local heating engineer to service it and 3 day later its packed up. Seems a bit of coincidence to me!!!

The problem is as follows,
Came in tonight and the missis was cold. The fan was running and showed fault code L9 (lower overheat from what i have read)
Pressed reset- all good. Bathed littlen and had heating on for about an hr then heard a banging. Went up and L9 again fan running. Pressed reset but got the three lines so think that means the heat exchanger was over 50' deg.

Switched the central heating off then maby 20mins later boiler must have cooled down and reset its self. Miss's has just had a shower all fine no probs. Left the heating off for now then hope it comes on in the morning.

Pressure is on 1bar cold then around 2bar hot and there is no fluctuation of the pressure when the pump kicks in. After the first reset all the radiators got hot so would appear the pump is working.

I am GSR but only core and gas engines so more than happy to do some fault finding if anyone has any suggestions/ things to check.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Rob

Phone the engineer and explain the problem.
No one will give you details on how to fault find on a gas appliance in a open forum for safety reasons

He suggested the pump. Looking at other posts on similar problems people have been more than happy to give suggestions even if the OP is not GSR.

Im only asking how to check the pump or thermistor ect or PCB. All of these bits can be changed with out being GSR from my understanding.

forum rules strictly forbid asking for and giving information on repairing gas appliances on the open forums, please take time to read the rules..&
''All of these bits can be changed with out being GSR from my understanding.'' you may be wrong there.!.

My money would be on no parts required. Just an understanding of the appliance by a registered engineer.

You need a gsr in to look at your boiler. We cannot and will not give advice on the installation or repair of boilers for your own safety.

Please go to Gas Safe Register | Ensure your gas engineer is registered. or post a thread in the 'I'm looking for a plumber / gas engineer' section of these forums remembering to include your location. [DLMURL="http://www.ukplumbersforums.co.uk/im-looking-plumber-gas-engineer/"]I'm looking for a Plumber or Gas Engineer[/DLMURL]

If you are gsr please increase your post count to 10+ then send a pm to either Gas man or Redsaw who will then check you and then give you access to the gsr private forum.

Thank you.
