Hi All

I'm confuased.. I do i need a Positive or Negative Pump ??????

I have very low water pressure in my shower and want to fit a pump to boost it.. the bathroom is on the floor below the loft, as is the hot water tank.

the cold water is fed from a tank in the loft, the hot water is fed from a hot water tank in on the same floor as the bathroom. the hot water comes from the tank under the bathroom floor to the shower... so..isn essance.. the hot water comes from below, the cold from above!

what i'd like to do is re route the hot water so it goes up into the loft, and then have the pump in the loft. CAN I DO THIS?? and if so, do i need a do i need a Positive or Negative Pump ??????

Thanks alot

Stu

positive pump if the shower head is lower than the tank, negative head if the shower head is higher than the tank, The hot water tank or more likely you mean cylinder is more likely to be fed from the tank in the loft, the same one the cold is fed from. Pics please.
positive head pump relies on the flow of water from gravity to turn it on, a negative head pump has a pressure vessel on the side, when you turn the pump on it pressurises (sp) the canister, when you open a tap/shower the pressure is relaesed from the canister forcing the water up to the next floor this initial burst of water starts the pump off and then it will pump the water up itself, then when you turn of the tap/shower the pump carries on running for a few seconds re presurising the canister ready to go again.

Hi

Thanks so much from your help.. yes.. the hot water cylinder is fed from the cold tank in the loft.. the same as the cold feed. I guess it’s the classic gravity fed system.

so.. does this mean that i can put a positive pump in the loft, providing the pump is lower than the Cold water tank?

Thanks again for all your help

Stu

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...
