Hello all,

I'm a tenant in a property and we have some antique taps that are shut off, because they leak quite badly. The plumbers who visited said it wasn't possible to get new washers to fix them, and a whole new unit would be needed, which the landlord isn't prepared to accommodate.

Could anyone advise if this is true? Is it possible to get new washers for old taps like these? Grateful for any advice.

Bet it's a standard 3/8th washer, givebit a go. Best off luck!

But only with LL permission!

And on old taps like these it can be a PITA hence LL and plumber don`t want to touch them.

Looks like a standard set of 1/2" BS1010 taps to me (1/2" tap washers should suit).

but as above, you don't want to break that antique corner basin it could be worth a few bob in London reclaim store.

Surely the landlord has to fix these as constantly leaking taps are wasteful and not fit for purpose as they are. Or is this just wishful thinking on my part?

Definitely. The OP said they've been turned off so presumably they have no washbasin now? I'd be complaining pretty strongly...

Our kitchen mixer tap has started dripping. Like so much of the plumbing in our almost new build bungalow, it is lacking! The plumber didn't install any isolating cocks in the H&C feed to the tap so how can I identify which of the valves is passing? Shut the whole H&C water system down?

Hi all I'm hoping someone can shine a light on this for me Since our stop tap on the pavement has now been filled with sand for whatever reason, we are relying on our property fitted stopcock (this is outside on our garage wall) Unfortunately turning this to the closed position only reduces...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
