access
Open access (OA) is a set of principles and a range of practices through which research outputs are distributed online, free of cost or other access barriers. With open access strictly defined (according to the 2001 definition), or libre open access, barriers to copying or reuse are also reduced or removed by applying an open license for copyright. The main focus of the open access movement is "peer reviewed research literature." Historically, this has centered mainly on print-based academic journals. Whereas conventional (non-open access) journals cover publishing costs through access tolls such as subscriptions, site licenses or pay-per-view charges, open-access journals are characterised by funding models which do not require the reader to pay to read the journal's contents or they rely on public funding. Open access can be applied to all forms of published research output, including peer-reviewed and non peer-reviewed academic journal articles, conference papers, theses, book chapters, monographs, research reports and images.Since the revenue of open access journals is earned from publication fees charged from the authors, there are concerns about the quality of articles published in OA journals.
I had to do work on waste pipe and uncovered this (as shown in the photograph) is it a access point that some one has either broken or left uncovered. There was just a cloth stuffed in it. It looks as though it is threaded. I would of investigated further but the people there were closing up and...
I want to change over a toilet seat but have come across an issue.
The screws holding the connection to the pan simply rotate, either left or right. Because of the pan design and location - I cannot access the back to see what's happening under the fitting.
Image0 - the underside, no access...
A couple of issues I’m hoping can be solved here!
The shower in our en suite is far too hot, and the temperature control just feels loose i.e when you turn it there’s no resistance and the temperature doesn’t change. It also only turns about 45 degrees which also doesnt seem right.
I’ve...
My house (built in the 1980s) has number of solvent welded screwed access plugs to clean the drain pipes in the bathroom, kitchen etc.
They are similar to the polypipe one shown below but have a lower profile cross shaped grip which makes them difficult to remove and refit.
Is there a special...
Installed when the house was built in the 70's.
Does anyone know where can I get a replacement cover ? (or gasket) ?
It's not the same shape as ones I've seen online with 4 fixing screws, it has a centre bolt to remove the cover.
Cheers
Hi, So I have a close coupled toilet and all the screws and everything are totally inaccessible. A few weeks ago the cistern started to leak into the pan, I've just changed the big silicone washer that's under the flush valve and the problem is still there. I'm thinking it's the diaphragm on...
I need to take out the filters to descale them, however they are behind the brass discs with the slots, but i cant unscrew them for love nor money, is there a special tool or magic trick
Hi everyone.
This is to do with a house not yet bought; the oil access issue may well be a deal-breaker.
The house in question has its oil tank in the back garden. Oil deliveries have historically been made via the integral garage which has a door at the back which leads into an extension...
Hi,
I need to change the washer on one of my bathroom taps but i can't seem to find out how to get the bloody top off. From what i can gather its a pillar lever tap but all the things I've googled only seem to have the ones where you can pull a little disc off the top to gain access to the...
HI there.
Just wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to access British Standard documents through BSOL(British Standard Online) at home? If so how much is membership?
If no, then which libraries offer access to these documents? I'm based in London.
It would litereally be several...
Hi was wondering if it was possible to change my bath drain as it has gone a little rusty but i don't have any access under the bath as the side of the bath is tiled in.
It looks as if it would just unscrew an pull out but im worried about it disturbing the rest of the drain and ending up being...
I would like to remove compression coupling to gain access to external waste pipe. I can remove both ends by twisting but the middle section does not move away. Do I need to apply more force?
My waste pipe is blocked so need access to try wet vac from outside as from toilet has not cleared the...

Is anyone familiar with this boiler?
The auto air vent is leaking but is in an extremely awkward place and my plumber nor I can figure out how one gets access to be able to change it. The side panel is welded so not removable and it looks like the only way to access it would be from the rear of...
I’m newly qualified gas safe (December) and can’t access private forum when new threads are posted. I know that I have to post ten threads to gain access but have posted two and they haven’t come on to the forum. I have sent my GS number to Shaun but maybe need to send photos of my card. Can...
Hello, I have sewer pipe with a rodding access point that dates from the 1950s. It is a cast iron pipe with a brass plug/cap (see photo). My question is: is there a special tool/spanner for opening this? Many thanks.
